work

I have a wide range of interests, not limited to writing, graphic design, video production, public relations, and digital content creation. I currently manage a major regional nonprofit’s social media channels, including our blog, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and TikTok. I’m comfortable using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, iMovie, WordPress, and MailChimp. I am potentially best known on my team for my ability to conjure up catchy titles and taglines. I am confident in my ability to provide fresh and innovative insight while working within the guidelines of a major brand.

Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast

Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast’s jurisdiction covers six counties along the California Coast: Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz. The council serves a growing membership of over 8,800 girls and over 5,600 adult volunteers. The time and attention required by a nonprofit have allowed me to get involved in many different projects and responsibilities, for which I am very grateful.

On our social media platforms, I’m not only responsible for the graphic design, calendaring, and engagement, but I also run contests, drive user-generated content, and interact with local businesses. Since I joined the team in 2018, our council’s social media presence has increased immensely and been recognized by the Girl Scouts of the USA and councils nationwide. Perhaps the most impressive has been our follower growth on Instagram, which started around 500 at my time of hire and has nearly reached 2,000 today. On our blog, girlscoutsccc.com, I cover council updates, interviews with membership, award highlights, and Girl Scout advice.

Public relations is another component of my current role. I distribute and coordinate press with local media outlets through written articles, tv appearances, and radio interviews. Through my extensive research, I established our current media relations list and have seen a steady progression in our presence throughout all six counties. In addition to drafting and editing releases, I am also responsible for monitoring and tracking any mention of our council in local outlets.

Especially during 2020, a company’s online presence became detrimental to customer engagement. When our council’s in-person programs and summer camps were canceled due to Covid-19, we launched a digital Girl Scouts At-Home campaign for which I edited 45 videos. I’ve also filmed and edited projects for our retail spaces, major fundraising campaigns, recognition events, and promotional materials, all of which are on our YouTube channel.

As an individual who appreciates an evolving role, I feel lucky to have held many different titles and believe it has been a good reflection of my range creatively and professionally. My responsibilities have proven that I can strictly adhere to deadlines while also working cross-departmentally. While I work efficiently on my own, I also love to collaborate on projects; in March 2021, I received an employee recognition award for being a team player. My current involvement in our council’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) committee has allowed me to take on a greater role in ensuring that the voices of all of our girls, volunteers, and staff are heard and represented across all of our platforms. I am always interested in similar opportunities to aid in the growth of my company.

Internships & College Experience

During my time at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), I managed to accrue a variety of internships. As a marketing intern at LoaCom, an environmentally-focused nonprofit, I gained experience in email marketing, client relations, social media management, and the redesign of an online platform. I became familiar with programs like MailChimp and Canva, wrote and published blogs, and assisted in creating marketing campaign materials for clients.

At the same time, I charted the first chapter of Course Hero at UCSB as the Editorial Director. Course Hero is an online learning platform where students and educators contribute course-specific study resources. During my senior year, they began recruiting teams of students at universities across the country to write and edit blogs for their school’s page on the website. I gained incredible leadership experience mentoring a group of student writers, creating publishing timelines, editing student pieces, and writing content.

I also had the opportunity to join Graphiq, Inc. (now acquired by Amazon) as a Content Marketing Intern. As an assistant to writing editors, I trained in best copyright practices, data fact-checking, and asset gathering. I learned how to effectively work in a team setting, pitched story ideas for syndication partners MSN and AOL in calendaring meetings, and ensured error-free content in the first stages of production.

Retail & Customer Service

My history in retail throughout the beginning of my adult life has provided me with extensive customer service knowledge. As a self-proclaimed “people person,” I am highly sociable and adaptable to any situation. It has been a great asset in my roles managing social media, as I am responsible for representing our organization online and interacting with membership. I take pride in the companies I represent while maintaining a great relationship with the clients I serve.
